Re: Jackshaft location

Many thanks for the reply. I went out to the garage and found the keeper plate (in the box with timing chains, which sort of makes sense!), and it was clear that the shaft wasn't in far enough. If I tightened the two screws holding the plate then I couldn't turn the shaft. I dropped the water pump in as another check and (with the keeper removed) turning the jackshaft resulted in the water pump lifting up. A series of measurements with a dowel lead me to conclude that the freeze plug was too deep by less than 1mm, but enough. I tapped it back gently with a dowel and after a bit of trial and error got it just far enough that the jackshaft fits and the keeper plate can be tightened without causing any tightness. Now I see that the plug is flush with the back of the block and I wonder if I have set it up to pop out in the near future - any thoughts on whether I need to remove the plug and start again?

Thanks again
Alistair
