Try turning the crankshaft by using a large pipe wrench or stilson on the back shank of the front engine pulley. that rotates the gears a little and may provide some upward force. PeterH

Sorry all Randall is correct. I forgot to mention the need to change wiring. To upgrade a Mk1 alternator it is by far the best solution to change the wiring and then you can fit the Bosch Ford unit....
